Sue Shann

September 3, 1915 — June 28, 2013

Una Sue Shann, 97 a resident of Fort Sumner, NM passed away Friday, June 28, 2013 at her home. Her family was at her bedside. Sue was born September 3, 1915 in House, NM to the home of Alonzo Bates and the former Zella Pritchet. She moved with her family to Texas where her father worked as a railroad engineer. After his death the family moved their cattle to the Bates Ranch near Fort Sumner. Sue worked as a waitress at the original Tito’s café in Fort Sumner, she also worked in Albuquerque for a credit union and Albuquerque Public Schools. She made her home in California, before moving back to Fort Sumner in 1965 to be near her mother. She was a member of the Garden Club and the Church on The Hill. Sue is preceded in death by her husband, Crit Shann, her mother Zella Knighten, father Alonzo Bates, two sons Jimmy Teal and Jerry Teal, and two sisters Durrell Bergman and Alice Johnson. Mrs. Shann is survived by a daughter Patricia Jayjock and her husband Stephen and family Stephen Jr. Kara Jayjock of Alexandria, VA, grandchildren Jonathan Spears and Jim LoRay Teal Jr. and his wife Jackie all of Fort Sumner, also surviving are great-grandchildren Lucas Jayjock, Tina Teal, Tonya Teal, Tami Teal, Christina Teal, Justin Teal along with numerous great and great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends and good neighbors. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, July 6, 2013 in the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel with Sister Anna Teeter officiating. The family requests memorial contributions in Sue’s memory to the Fort Sumner Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 180, Fort Sumner, NM 88119.
