Services for Lavinia Pennington will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner, NM with Pastor Mike Stahl officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Bailey, Gordon Morris, David Vansickel, Chris Steele, Greg Pennington, Scott Pennington, Jeff Osgood, Carl Brown and Michael Perry. Visitation hours will be Monday from 1pm to 6pm at the funeral home. Lavinia Pennington, 90 of Fort Sumner, NM passed away Friday, February 14, 2014 at Retirement Ranch in Clovis, NM following an illness. She was born November 22, 1923 in Fountain Inn, South Carolina to the home of Benjamin Harold and Nannie (Thomason) Sullivan. Lavinia was the eldest of four children. She attended Fairview Grade School and graduated from Fork Shoals High School in 1941. Lavinia married Luther Pennington on July 31, 1943 in Greenville, SC where Luther was stationed at Donaldson Air Base. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force at Roswell Air Base in 1945 and they made their home in Fort Sumner, NM. Lavinia was an active member of First United Methodist Church where she dedicated many years to the funeral meal committee. Lavinia is preceded in death by her husband Luther Pennington in 2001, a daughter Melody Pennington in 2004, a great-grandson David Brian Brown, her parents, a sister Carolyn Reams and a brother Calvin Sullivan. Lavinia is survived by two daughters Barbara Corbett and her husband Bob of Gansevoort, NY, and Belinda  Storley and her husband Ken of Vancouver, Washington, one son Robert Pennington and his wife Cindy of Fort Sumner, a brother Harold Sullivan and his wife Mott of Fountain Inn, SC, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
