Services for Willie Padilla-Griego age 70 of Fort Sumner will be held at 10am Friday, April 4, 2014 at Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Willie passed away at his home Wednesday, March 26, 2014. He was born February 17, 1944 in Pintada, NM the son of Lauriano Padilla and Condra Griego. He grew up in Santa Rosa and Hereford, Texas. Willie attended and graduated from school in Hereford.  Following graduation he operated a service station in Hereford, he worked as a butcher for a meat packing company for several years, was an employee for the Texas Employment Commission in Dallas for a short time before moving to Fort Sumner in 1977. In Fort Sumner he raised and trained horses, worked as a meat butcher for the Village Country Store, owned and operated the G & W Recrereation Center, and opened Willie's Video Store which he operated for over 30 years. He also opened video stores in Santa Rosa, Vaughn, Tucumcari, and Anton Chico. Willie enjoyed travelling, road trips, and playing pool.He is preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers Antonio, Ricky, and Daniel Padilla.Survivors include two daughters Jennifer and her husband Tanner Mack, and Kimberly and her husband Tyrel Layton, five grandchildren Emily, Caiden, and Aubree Mack, Brook and Paige Layton, and his ex-wife Geraldine Griego all of Fort Sumner. Also surviving are nine siblings, five brothers, Lucio "Joe" Griego, Larry Padilla, Ignacio Padilla, Rosendo Padilla, Manuel Padilla, four sisters Matilda Coronado, Helen Grove, Dolores Wells, and Viola Rickert along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N.
