Ms. Mary Rose Abeyta, age 62, a longtime Santa Rosa, NM resident passed away on Friday, January 2, 2015 in Tecolotito, NM where she was residing with her niece. Mary Rose was born January 16, 1952 in Santa Rosa, NM to the home of Lucio and Arcelia (Flores) Abeyta. She grew up in Santa Rosa and attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic School. She later attended ENMRSH in Santa Rosa for 7 years. Mary Rose always had a welcoming smile for every person she met. She loved her family and spending time with her many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed making arts and crafts and coloring. Mary Rose is preceded in death by her parents, father Lucio Abeyta in 2003, and Arcelia "Chela" Abeyta in 2008, a brother Jose "Chio" Abeyta in 1989, and a sister Josie Pacheco in 2010. Mary Rose is survived by a brother Herman Abeyta and his wife Violet, three sisters Frances Lopez, Helen Abeyta, and Margie Abeyta all of Santa Rosa. Also surviving is an uncle Filomeno and his wife Erlinda Flores of Puerto De Luna, a god daughter Araya Baca of Tecolotito, 12 nieces and nephews, 30 great-nieces and nephews, a host of cousins and many other relatives. A rosary will be recited at 7pm Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at the Chavez Funeral Home in Santa Rosa. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10am Thursday, January 8, 2015 from Nuestra Senora de Refugio Catholic Church in Puerto De Luna, burial will follow at Nuestra Senora de Refugio Cemetery with Father Sotero A. Sena officiating. Honorary bearers will include Raul Lopez, Shawn Lopez, Isaac Abeyta, Bonifacio Baca, Jorge Rivera Sr., Jorge Rivera Jr., Jonathan Garcia, Paul Pacheco, Araya Baca, Jeremy Garcia, Joe Garcia, Julie Rael, Berna Velasquez, Julian Velasquez, and Ben Rael. All arrangements for Mary Rose Abeyta are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 923 S. Third Street, Santa Rosa, NM. (575) 472-3369.
