Margaret L. Oldham

Margaret L. Oldham, 84 a longtime Fort Sumner resident passed away on February 4, 2015 at University Medical Center in Lubbock, TX following a sudden illness. Margaret was born on November 14, 1930 in Yakima, WA to the home of Virgil William and Ida Leola (Counts) Webb. She moved with her family to the Fort Sumner valley at the age of 5. Margaret attended Fort Sumner Schools. She was the eldest of 11 children and helped to raise her siblings. Growing up she worked alongside her father as a house mover. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, crocheting (she made an afghan for most of her family members), and according to her family she was the best cook ever. Margaret was a housewife and homemaker most of her life. She also worked at the Pecos Valley Care Center, and volunteered for several years with the Fort Sumner Head Start Program and served as Girl Scout Leader for many years. Margaret was a member of The Church on the Hill and the Fort Sumner Valley Quilting Club. She is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Sammy Lee Bracken in 1959, her second husband Florice "Tex" Oldham in 1999, a son Jess Oldham in 2010, four brothers Loy Ray "Buddy" Webb, Orval Webb, Olan Webb, Marvin Webb, and a sister Mary Arlene Darrow. She is survived by four children, Veola Wilson and husband Dan of Drummond, TN, Barbara Shaver of Hatch, NM, Sammy "William" Bracken and his wife Heidi of St. Bonifacius, MN, Lutricia Drake and husband Ray of Lake Sumner, three stepchildren Louise McClatchy of Brownsboro, TX, Frances Kitzlan and husband Pat of Michigan, Pat Fairchild and husband Doug of Santa Fe, 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three sisters Erma Harkey of Auburn, CA, Freda Briscoe of Dallas, TX, and Lynda Archer of Amarillo, TX, two brothers LeeRoy Webb of Mansfield, TX and O'Dell Webb of Quannah, TX, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation hours will be Sunday from 1pm to 6pm at the funeral home. Services will be held at 11am Monday, February 9, 2015 at The Church on The Hill with Pastor Anna Teeter-Gentile officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Raymond Drake, Lee Wilson, Daniel Wilson, Bryan Bracken, Nathaniel Bracken, Sam Bracken, Charles Shaver, and Chance Drake.
