Noel Dewayne Mayhon

Noel D. Mayhon, 76 a resident of Fort Sumner and Tolar, NM passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at his home in Tolar following an illness. Noel was born December 5, 1938 in Vaughn, NM. He attended school in Vaughn, and graduated in 1956. Noel served in the U.S. military. Noel worked in the road construction business for several years. He worked for several years for Kermac Construction at their rock quarry near Encino as an equipment operator, mechanic, and "powder man". He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner, American Legion Post #25, and AMVETS in Clovis, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Knights of Columbus Council 8331 in Fort Sumner. Noel enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, and working in his yard. He is preceded in death by his mom and dad Archie and Blanche (Bertrum) Lewis. Survivors include his wife Joy Mayhon of Tolar, a daughter Yavonne Mayhon of Los Lunas, a grandson Orynn Mayhon of Los Lunas. Also surviving are Joy's children Tracy Chalaman of Round Rock, TX, Kelly Tatum and his wife Susan of Bryan, TX, and Barry Tatum of Round Rock, TX, grandchildren Chris Chalaman, Kala Chalaman of Round Rock, TX and Shauna of Dallas, TX, great-grandchildren Ethan, Mona, and Max Chalaman. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10am Friday, February 20, 2015 from St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery with Father Paul Nkumbi officiating. All arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N. Fifth Street, Fort Sumner, NM. (575) 355-2311.
