Raymond Borquez Sr.

Raymond Borquez, age 85, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2015 at his residence in Tucumcari. Raymond was born on February 5, 1930 in Canyon, TX to the home of Miguel Diaz and Grace Borquez. He attended Tucumcari Public Schools and later served in the U.S. Army from 1951 through 1953. Raymond Married Lena Mascarenas on August 15, 1950 in Tucumcari. Raymond was a parishioner at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, a member of the American Legion, The Elks, V.F.W. and was also a Volunteer Fire Fighter. He enjoyed playing Dominos and Black Jack. He is preceded in death by his parents, his Wife Lena Borquez in 2010, his brother Mike Diaz, Jr. in 1988, his daughters, Kathy Borquez in 1990 and Grace Madrid in 2005, his grandsons James Pacheco in 1989 and Jason Pacheco in 2007, his granddaughter Shirley Pacheco in 2011 and his sister Cleo Paiz in 2014. Survivors include his sons, Jimmy Borquez and wife Myra of Tucumcari, Raymond Borquez also of Tucumcari, his daughters, Theresa Callahan and husband Ken of Albuquerque, Christina Pacheco of Tucumcari, Hope Ortiz and husband Freddy also of Tucumcari. Also surviving is his sister Patricia Prieto of Tucumcari, his son in law Alex Madrid of Tucumcari, his sister in law Francis Diaz of Tucumcari, his brother in law Ernest Paiz, along with 21 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Rosary services will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 6:00 PM from St. Anne’s Church with Deacon Bob Welch leading in prayer. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 9, at 10:00 AM also from St. Anne’s Church with Father Hyginus Anuta officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at Tucumcari Memorial Park. Serving as Pallbearers will be, Sandy Banuelos, Esperanza Madrid, Lisa Ortiz, Nichol Madrid, Rachel McKinlay, Miranda McMurray, Savannah Borquez, and Beth Borquez Bermea. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeff Pacheco, Pete Borquez, Joseph Ortiz, Matthew Callahan, Miguel Borquez, Josh Pacheco and Rodney Borquez.
