Eloisa G. Lopez

Eloisa G. Lopez, age 104 years, 11 months, and 14 days passed away peacefully at her home with her family at her bedside. She was born January 10, 1911 in Cuervo, New Mexico to the home of Justo and Getruditas (Lopez) Griego. She attended schools at La Garita and Cuervo, NM. Her grandfather was one of the first homesteaders at La Garita. Eloisa married Ezequiel “Jack” Lopez on July 22, 1941 in Fort Sumner. She worked as as a cook in area cafés and restaurants, managed a Laundromat and worked in a flower shop. She was a homemaker for many years. Eloisa was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church as a member of the St. Anthony Altar Society, Sacred Heart Society, and as the organist and choir member. She is preceded in death by her husband Ezequiel “Jack” Lopez in 1992, a son-in-law Ted Griego in 2003, six brothers Abelino Griego, Justo Griego Jr., Bernardo Griego, Max Griego, Marcos Griego, and Alfonso Griego, three sisters Josefita Garcia, Maria Urioste, and Gregorita “Lilly” Lopez. Survivors include three children, a son Raymond Lopez and wife Carolyn of Fort Sumner, two daughters Mary Faye Griego of Chandler, AZ, and Rosella Bogle and husband Lewis of Fort Sumner, 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, neighbors and friends. Visitation hours will be Sunday from 1-6pm and Monday from 1-5pm at the funeral home. A rosary, led by her family, will be recited at 6pm Monday, December 28, 2015 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner, NM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the church at 11am Tuesday, December 29th with Father Christopher Bernabe officiating. Burial will follow in the Lopez family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Jason Bernal, Bradley Lopez, Ken Griego, Teddy Griego, Jon Griego, Denny Landreth, and Ben Segura. Honorary bearers will include Jude Segura, Angel Bernal, Nico Bernal, Christopher Lopez, Joaquin Segura, and Noah Bernal. All arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N. 5th Street, Fort Sumner, NM. (575) 355-2311.
