Billy Joe Crispin, 54 of Fort Sumner passed away Thursday evening, January 12, 2017 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque following an illness. Billy was born October 23, 1962 in Fort Sumner to the home of Floyd Joe and Bernice (Anaya) Crispin. He grew up in Fort Sumner, attended and graduated with the Fort Sumner High School Class of 1981. Billy continued his education at New Mexico State University where he received a degree in Agriculture Mechanics. Growing up in Fort Sumner, Billy worked alongside his father custom farming, and welding. He worked for Sam Sanders Gravel Pit, and drove a truck for K. Barnett Construction. Billy later drove a truck cross country for WW Trucking. He made his home in Winter Haven, Florida where he owned and operated Crispin Trucking for several years. He hauled milk, and delivered orange pulp to the docks to be placed on ships. Billy was also an accomplished underwater welder. In his free time, Billy enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, playing his bass guitar, dancing, hunting, fishing, and scuba diving. Billy's health began to decline in 2014 and he returned to Fort Sumner. He was cared for by his loving mother and sisters for the past three years. Billy is preceded in death by his father Joe Crispin, a son Joshua Robert Crispin, two uncles Robert Anaya and Tony Anaya, and an aunt Mary Gauna. He is survived by his mother Bernice Crispin of Fort Sumner, three sisters Donna Crispin of Clovis, Wanda Gammill and husband Wayland of Los Lunas, and Sandra Bailey and husband Keith of Bennett, Colorado. Also surviving is a son William Cody (Crispin) Roberts, a niece Victoria Gammill of Los Lunas, two nephews Joey Bailey and wife Katey of Dickinson, ND and Dustin Bailey of Bennett, CO, an uncle Catarino Casaus Jr. and his wife Lisa of Fort Sumner, his adopted brother, John Winn of Portales, along with a host of cousins, other relatives and many friends. Visitation hours for friends and family will be Sunday from 1pm to 6pm at Chavez Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, January 16, 2017 at the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel, burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Keith Bailey will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Joey Bailey, Dustin Bailey, Wayland Gammill, John Winn, Paul Gauna, Jerry Bullock, Andy Roybal, Andres Solis, and Leroy Casaus. Honorary bearers will include Catarino Casaus Jr., JC Bailey, and Billy Joe Casaus. The family requests memorials in Billy's memory to the Presbyterian Hospital Volunteer Services, P.O. Box 26666, Albuquerque, NM 87125. The family would like to thank the staff at Presbyterian Hospital for the care and support Billy received.
