Ora Lee Long, 76 a longtime Fort Sumner resident died Sunday, January 2, 2000 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, TX following an illness. Ora Lee was born August 14, 1923 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to the home of Caril and Indiola Harden. She married Delbert E. Long on March 21, 1942 at Clovis, NM. She traveled with Delbert during his 31 years with El Paso Natural Gas Company. She worked as a bookkeeper in Window Rock, AZ for several years. They retired to Fort Sumner in 1983 where they were both active with the Fort Sumner Senior Citizens Center. They volunteered as cooks for several years and later drove the activity van when the seniors went on trips. She was a member of The Truth Church. Ora Lee was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers C.J. Harden, Jimmy Harden, and a great-grandson Kyle James McGilvray. Survivors include her husband Delbert E. Long of the home in Fort Sumner. Daughter Delphane McGilvray; three grandsons Destery McGilvray and wife Piper, Darrin McGilvray and wife Carol all of Carlsbad, NM, Damon McGilvray and wife Iselda of Odessa, TX; also surviving are seven great-grandchildren along with four sisters Ethel Burton of Marlow, OK; Ella Jean Hiser of Prineville, OR; Depha Kyle of Winslow, AZ; Ola Faye Pena of Fort Sumner; and a brother A.J. Harden of Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday; January 6, 2000 from the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner with Jim Price officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Glenn Kyle, Ed Krizan, Roy McCloud, Kim Hahn, Mike Leonhardt, Gordon Tinkston. Honorary bearers Howard Waterfield, Bob Erickson, Clark Price, Armold Price, Clayton Price, Ben McGilvray, Destery McGilvray, Darrin McGilvray, and Damon McGilvray. All arrangements entrusted to Chavez Funeral Home of Fort Sumner.
