Lucia Madril Montoya

Lucia (Madril) Montoya, 92 a longtime Encino, NM resident died Sunday, July 28, 2002 at Sandia Hospice in Albuquerque following an illness. Mrs. Montoya was born May 25, 1910 in Duran, NM where she was reared and attended school. She graduated from Encino High School. Lucia married Tomas Montoya at Duran, NM on November 30, 1928. They owned and operated Tom Montoya and Son General Merchandise Store at Encino for many years. They also ranched at Encino for over 50 years. Mrs. Montoya was a faithful member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Encino. She spent her days praying and reading. Lucia was preceded in death by her husband Tomas in 1974; an infant daughter Mercedes Montoya in 1930, three brothers Sabino Madril, Narciso Madril, and Boney Madril; and two sisters Ursula Garcia, and Rosalia Roybal. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister who will be dearly missed by her family. Survivors include a son Tom Montoya and wife Caroline of Encino, NM; two daughters Fanny Montoya of Encino, NM; Mercedes Pena and husband Andy of Albuquerque; two granddaughters Annette Montoya of Albuquerque and Elaine Prickett of Las Cruces, three grandsons Philip Montoya of Encino; Chris Pena and Bobby Pena both of Albuquerque; three Great-grandchildren Jennifer and Joseph Harrison and Renee Pena all of Albuquerque; one brother Susano Madril and one sister-in-law Adelina Montoya both of Albuquerque. Also surviving are a numerous nieces, nephews and many other relatives. Rosary services will be held at 7:30 P.M. Monday, July 29, 2002 from Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Encino. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the church at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 30, 2002 with Father John Jasinski, celebrant of the Mass. Burial will follow in the Encino Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Pena, Bobby Pena, Johnny Chris Madril, Frank Davila, Charlie Anaya, and Raymond Gallegos. Honorary pallbearer will be Philip Montoya. The family would like to express their most sincere appreciation to Dr. Henry Garcia and the staff at Sandia Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Lucia Montoya and her family. The family prefers memorials to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church Renovation Committee, c/o Ernie Garcia, P.O. Box 75, Encino, NM 88321. All arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 804 North Fifth Street, Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
