Joshua J. Wayne Bridges

Josh Bridges, 21 of Fort Sumner died Monday, July 1, 2002 at Lake Sumner State Park. Josh was born in Fort Sumner the son of Windell and Kathy (Bell) Bridges. Josh attended Fort Sumner Public Schools and graduated in 1998. He worked with his dad at Glass Masters of Fort Sumner and owned and operated Bridges Trash Hauling since high school. This business had grown to include many Fort Sumner and De Baca County customers including a contract with the Lake Sumner State Park. Josh was a member of the Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, skiing, playing poker, and spending time with his family. Josh was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Mary Bell and his paternal grandfather J. Windell Bridges. Survivors include his parents Windell and Kathy Bridges of Fort Sumner; a sister Wendy Dae Williamson and husband Larry of Conifer, CO; a niece Rae-anne Williamson of Conifer, CO; his paternal grandmother Vivian Finney; Maternal grandfather Kenneth Bell; uncle Kenneth Bell Jr., all of Fort Sumner; uncles John Bridges of Portales, NM; Mike Melton of Lake Sumner; and aunt Melissa Thomson of Fort Sumner. Also surviving are several cousins, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 1 P.M. to 6 P.M. and Thursday from 1 P.M. to 5 P.M. at the funeral home. The fourth of July was Josh’s favorite holiday. A celebration of his life will take place at 8:00 P.M. Thursday, July 4, 2002 from the Fort Sumner Cemetery in Fort Sumner, NM with Rev. Monte Leavell and Rev. Mike Teeter officiating. Pallbearers will be Kenny Bell, Larry Williamson, Mike Melton, Timmy Thomson, Ray Melton, and John Bridges. Honorary bearers will be all his customers and the staff at Lake Sumner State Park. The family prefers memorials to the Epilepsy Foundation 4351 Garden City Drive, Landover, MD 20785-7223 or the Fort Sumner Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 180, Fort Sumner, NM 88119. All arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner, NM.
