Sybal Luna Knapp

Sybal Luna Knapp, 81 of San Diego, CA died Sunday, June 16, 2002 following an illness. She was born February 26, 1921 on the family ranch near Cuervo, NM, the daughter of John R. and Martha Lula (Humphrey) Luna. Sybal was schooled in country schools, coming to Fort Sumner for her high school years. Following graduation she attended New Mexico State College at Las Cruces, NM majoring in Home Economics. She also was active in the college music program. In 1944 she left school to be married to Joseph Knapp in San Diego, CA, where he was serving in the U.S. Navy. Following the end of World War II the two chose San Diego as their permanent home. Sybal can best be described as a happy, outgoing, people person who made and kept strong friendships. She was an enthusiastic girl scout leader when her daughter, Sandra Jo, was a member of that organization. During those years she was also active in P-T-A and any other school related activities. She excelled in sales for Sears Roebuck Company Stores and took a special joy in planning retirement parties for her co-workers. When she moved to San Diego she changed her membership from the Methodist Church to the Church of Christ, and she was a loyal and active member of her church, supporting it with her many musical and organizational talents. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend. Sybal is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, Joe Knapp of San Diego, CA; one daughter and son-in-law Sandra and Glenn Amorosia of Houston, TX; two grand-daughters Rebecca and Nicole Rath; two grandsons, Dale and Dominic Amorosia; her brother Lamar Luna and wife Melba of Fort Sumner, her sister Laheeta Harvey of Encino, NM; and a large number of loving nieces, nephews and devoted friends. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 21, 2002 from the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner, NM with Rev. Monty Leavell officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home.
