Otis Owen Fox

Owen Fox, 59 of Portales, New Mexico died October 24, 2001 in Portales. Owen was born January 27, 1942 in Fort Sumner to the home of J.D. Fox and the former Ada Mae Savage. He was reared and attended schools at Fort Sumner where he excelled in track, football and basketball. He was active in high school rodeo and was the 1961 High School Steer Wrestling Champion and All Around Cowboy Champion. Owen owned and operated K & O Trucking Company in Las Cruces for over 23 years. He moved his company to Portales, NM in 1981 and worked for several construction companies in eastern New Mexico. He was also a heavy equipment operator. Owen attended the Methodist Church at Elida, NM. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and dancing. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Clovis. Owen was preceded in death by his father J.D. Fox on September 8, 1985. Survivors include his mother Ada Mae Fox of Fort Sumner; a brother Jimmy Fox of Albuquerque; two sisters Cloreta hawk and husband Weldon of Clovis, NM; and Maurcenia Dewbre of Fort Sumner. Also surviving are two nieces and two nephews, Jimmie Dee Fox of Fort Sumner; D’Aun Douglass of Litchfield Park, Arizona; Olen Douglass and wife LaTonne of Miami, Texas and Eddy Douglass and wife Kim of Georgetown, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 28, 2001 from the Christ Full Gospel Church in Fort Sumner with Rev. Mike Teeter officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Glen Griffin, Kay Lee Skipworth, Vern Stockard, Olen Douglass, Dan Price, Jay Schroeder, Quinton Bennett, and Fred Montoya. Honorary bearers will be all his friends and relatives. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10AM to 6PM and Sunday from 10AM to 12noon at the funeral home. All arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 804 North Fifth Street, Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
