Buckie Bruce Beck

Buckie Bruce Beck, 62 a resident of Fort Sumner, NM since 1975 died Thursday, March 16, 2000 at his home following an illness. Buckie was born July 20, 1937 at Pedernal, NM to the home of Hubert Sylvester Beck and the former Mary Jane Cravens. He was raised and attended school at Encino, NM graduating in 1955. He attended the University of New Mexico for one year. Buckie worked with the Santa Fe Railroad for five years before he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served from 1960-1962. Following his honorable discharge he returned to gang work on the railroad. Buckie married Peggy June Savoie on September 19, 1964 at Artesia, NM. They made their home at Yeso, NM where Buckie worked as a railroad signal maintainer. They moved into Fort Sumner in 1975. Buckie retired from the railroad in 1997 after 41 years. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance Of way Engineers Union, the Fort Sumner Bowling League, Lions Club, and a charter member of the Eagles Club where he served in all the local offices. Buckie was preceded in death by his father, Hubert S. on May 1, 1968, his mother Mary Jane Beck on June 15, 1996, a sister Kelsey Brady on August 21, 1981, and a brother Stanley Beck in 1960. Survivors include his wife Peggy beck of the home, two daughters Denise Dosher , and Jodie Jacks and husband Tommy all of Fort Sumner, a nephew raised as a son, Lindsey and wife Kathy Beck of Pampa, TX, one brother Dan Larry Beck and wife Darlene of Encino, NM, two sisters Katy Starbuck and husband Jim of Clovis, NM, Betty and husband Joe Wimberly of Moriarty, NM, two granddaughters Lacey Newton and Sierra Jacks both of Fort Sumner. Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 18, 2000 from the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner with Dan Craig officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Don Sweet, Norman Moore, Dee Fish, Kyle Brewer, Jerry Jacobs, Leslie Bruce, Johnny Bruce, and Stoney Floyd. The family prefers memorial to the American Cancer Society in memory of Buckie Beck. All arrangements entrusted to Chavez Funeral Home 804 N. Fifth Street; Fort Sumner, New Mexico. (505) 355-2311
