Owassa Alice Tingle Field

Owassa Alice Tingle Field was born in Yoakhum County, Plains, Texas on September 18, 1907 to the home of Dallas Burton and Stella Jane Henard Tingle. She passed away at the Retirement Ranch in Clovis, NM on November 6, 2000 at the age of 93. Owassa was a Christian woman with great faith, who loved her Lord, and taught young and old about her Savior Jesus Christ. Her example of kindness, and Christian love, will long be remembered. She was a member of the First Baptist Church at Yeso, Fort Sumner, and House, NM. Owassa grew up in Texas and New Mexico. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and gardening, she prepared many great meals for her family and friends and was always eager to cook for families of sick and bereaved. During her marriage to Slim Robinson, they lived in different areas of New Mexico and Arizona. Slim died in a rodeo accident. Following his death Owassa worked in Albuquerque for several years. Owassa married Herbert H. Field, they made their home on a ranch in the Yeso, NM in 1953, Herbert preceded her in death in 1961. Following his death, Owassa made her home on a farm at House, NM for 32 years. In 1993 she moved north of Fort Sumner where she resided with her daughter and son-in-law Gerry and George Hisel. In March of 1997, Owassa made her home at the Pecos Valley Care Center in Fort Sumner. In late October of this year, Owassa broke her hip and was taken to Clovis for surgery and physical therapy. Owassa was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, Bama Jones Tingle, husbands Slim Robinson and Herbert H. Field; a son Garland T. Gainer; two brothers Henard Tingle and Sherm Tingle, two sisters Frances Summers and Katy Bess Tingle. Survivors include two daughters Geraldine Hisel and husband George of Clovis; Francell McKee and husband J.D. of Ardmore, Oklahoma; a daughter-in-law Madge Gainer of Marble Falls, TX; a sister-in-law Lois Tingle of Wilcox, Arizona. Ten Grandchildren, Roby Adams and husband Larry of Albuquerque; Glen Hisel and wife Carol, Quanah Bold of Clovis; Sherry Taylor and husband Kent of Salem, Alabama; Linda McKee and husband Harry; Jim McKee and wife Colleen, Kristie Kelly all of Houston, TX; Peggy Lackey and husband Darwin of Hobbs; Susie Powell and husband Rick of Colleyville, Texas; Garlene Peterson and husband Krist of Las Cruces, NM; 23 Great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren, along with eight nephews their families and a host of friends who loved and admired her very much. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 10, 2000 from the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner with Rev. George B. Hisel, Rev. Eddie Tingle, and Rev. Sherman Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Lance Adams, Colt Adams, Joshua Bold, Burton Lee Tingle, Bruce Tingle, and Link Summers. Honorary bearers will include Glen Hisel, Larry Adams, and Jim McKee. Visitation will be held on Wednesday 1PM to 6PM, Thursday 10AM-6PM and Friday from 10AM until the service time. Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner.
