Linnie Beatice Goedeke Farr

Linnie Beatice Goedeke Farr, 87, a longtime Fort Sumner resident died Tuesday, November 28, 2000 at a Seymour, Texas Hospital following an illness. Linnie was born December 7, 1912 in Post, Texas to the home of William Goedeke Sr. and the former Lillie Mae Simmons. The Goedeke family made their home at Vaughn, NM where Mr. Goedeke owned an Automobile Dealership. They moved their family to Fort Sumner in the 1920’s. Linnie was a licensed cosmetologist she owned and operated the Fort Sumner Beauty Salon for several years. She was an active member of the Fort Sumner community, a talanted amateur artist and interior decorator. She was a member of the Fort Sumner Garden Club, Cowbelles, and the Fort Sumner Women’s Club. Linnie was an extremely talented and gracious hostess in public and private endeavors. She was a loving aunt who has always been there for her nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by her family. Linnie and Gerald ranched at Red Canyon and White Lake, New Mexico and Seymour, Texas. Gerald preceded her in death on February 21, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Leonard S. Goedeke, and William L. Goedeke; and one sister Lou Ellen Adamson. Linnie made her home at Westview Care Center in Seymour in 1998. Survivors include four nieces Mary Lou Corbett of Orlando, Florida; Jackie Lynn Barbee of Azle, Texas; Mary Ann Hackworth of Goose Creek, South Carolina; Barbara Cook of Tucson, Arizona; one nephew Leonard Owensby of Needles, CA. Also surviving are numerous great-nieces and nephews. A brother-in-law Lawrence Harmel and Sister-in-law Johnnye Harmell of Seymour, Texas. Funeral services were held at 3:00 P.M., Thursday, November 30, 2000 from the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner with Rev. Monty Leavell officiating. Burial followed at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill West, Ab Hendley, Earl Turnbow, Emmett Fallon, A.J. Killough, and Gene Harvey.
