Demetria Segura

Demetria Segura, 77, a lifelong De Baca County resident died Friday, January 19, 2001 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, NM following an illness. Mrs. Segura was born May 3, 1923 at El Alamo in northern De Baca County to the home of Gomecindo Lopez and the former Alicia Baca. Her family moved into Fort Sumner during the construction of the Alamogordo Dam. Demetria married Lorenzo Segura on June 14, 1948 at Santa Rosa. He preceded her in death on January 29, 1963. Demetria enjoyed sewing and quilting. She was a loving mother and grandmother who dedicated her lifetime caring for her children and grandchildren. She began each morning reciting the rosary. Demetria was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. She enjoyed visiting with her many friends. Survivors include a daughter Yolanda Banagay and husband Bobby of Clovis, NM; sons Joe Fred Segura and wife Becky of Clovis; Benny Segura and wife Mary Lou of Fort Sumner; Lorenzo Segura and wife Diane of Fort Sumner; Alex Segura of Fort Sumner, Leroy Segura and wife Sandra of Clovis, NM; Also surviving are 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren along with many friends. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Sunday, January 21, 2001 from St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, January 22, 2001, with Rev. Father Sotero A. Sena, Celebrant of the Mass. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Banagay Jr., Joe Fred Segura, Ben Segura, Eric Banagay, Jerome Segura, Alex Segura Jr., and Timothy Segura. Honorary bearers will be Joanna Lupin, Becky Wallace, John Anthony Segura, Paul Andrew Segura, Victoria Aragon, Reve Segura, Whitney Segura, Susana Herbeck, Vanessa Foster, Alisha Segura, Lisa Demetria Segura. All arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner.
