Alice Shoemaker Johnson

Alice Johnson, 96 a longtime Guadalupe County resident died Tuesday, May 8, 2001 in the Pecos Valley Care Center in Fort Sumner following an illness. Mrs. Johnson was born May 14, 1904 at Johnson Mesa, Raton, New Mexico to the home of James Thomas Shoemaker and the former Maud Alice Willis. She was reared and attended school at Las Vegas, NM and also Attended Normal (Highlands) University in Las Vegas. She married Bevo Johnson in 1928 at La Cueva, NM. They homesteaded west of Santa Rosa where they ranched sheep and cattle for many years. Alice was a member of Eastern Star since the 1940’s where she served as Past Matron; she was a member of the United Methodist Church in Santa Rosa where she served as the church organist from 1949 until 1992; a past member of Cowbelles, the Santa Rosa Literary Club and Garden Club. Alice made her home at the Pecos Valley Care Center in 1994. Alice was preceded in death by her husband Bevo Johnson in 1968; a daughter Barbara A. Kyle in 1982, a son Robert L. Johnson in 1989, two sisters and two brothers. Survivors include four grandchildren, Randy Johnson of Clovis, NM; Scott Johnson of Santa Rosa; Jackie Krshka of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Joe Bob Kyle of Albuquerque, NM. Also surviving is a sister Ruth Phillips of San Antonio, Texas, and a sister in law Sophie Johnson of Santa Rosa. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, May 10, 2001 from the United Methodist Church in Santa Rosa with Rev. Luis Orozco officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Santa Rosa.
