Rosa Eva Mares

Rosa Eva Mares, 80 a lifelong De Baca County resident died Monday, April 30, 2001 at Mission Arch Nursing Center in Roswell, NM following an illness. Rosa was born April 28, 1921 in Ricardo, NM to the home of Emiliano Gauna and the former Claudita Sandoval. She was reared at Ricardo and attended school at Yeso. Rosa enjoyed embroidery. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Rosa was preceded in death by her husband Max Mares in 1994; four brothers Eugenio Gauna, Eloy Gauna, Lucio Gauna, and Pat Gauna. Rosa was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother who will be dearly missed by her family. Survivors include four sons John Mares and wife Esther of Clovis; Danny A. Mares and wife Rosemary of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Ernest Mares of Fort Sumner; and Jimmy J. Mares and wife Aurora of Roswell. Also surviving is one brother Henry Gauna of Friona, NM; four sisters Fabiola Sena of Fort Sumner; Mary Barela and Cora Barela both of Clovis and Nona Samora of Fort Sumner, along with 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. Rosary services will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2001 at 7:00 P.M. from St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated from the church on Thursday, May 3, 2001 at 10:00 A.M. with Father Stephen Schultz officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Johnny Mares, Fred Mares, Johnny Mares Jr., Justin Mares, Anthony Mares, and Bill Wertheim. Honorary bearers will be all her grandchildren.
