Alice L. Eldridge-Brady, age 103 a longtime resident of the Fort Sumner valley passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at her daughter’s home in Peralta, New Mexico. Mrs. Brady was born February 27, 1923 in Benson, Arizona to the home of James LeRoy Lancaster and the former Buena Vista Justis. She grew up in Benson, Arizona and Barber, Arkansas. She attended schools at Boonville, Arkansas, Clovis, New Mexico and the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
Alice was a Civil Service employee in the Accounting Department at Kirtland Air Force Base for 29 years. She retired on March 31, 1976.
Alice was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner. She was a member of the American Quarter Horse and National and State Cutting Horse Associations, a member of the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees, a member of the Valley Quilting Club and Bridge Club.
She made her home in Clovis, NM 1945-1947, Lincoln, Arkansas 1947-1953, Albuquerque, NM 1953-1965, Bosque Farms 1965-1979. She made her home in Fort Sumner in 1979.
Mrs. Brady is preceded in death by her first husband Harlie W. Eldridge in 1988, her second husband Clarence Orval “C.O.” Brady in 2012, a son James Aval Eldridge in 1948, her mother Buena Lancaster Williamson in 1947, her father James LeRoy Lancaster in 1950, three siblings Camille Greeson, Ethel Valler, Edith Sanford, Fred Roy Lancaster and Ida Pennington.
Survivors include three children, a son Charles W. “Charlie” Eldridge and his wife Becky of Truth or Consequences, NM, two daughters Nancy Carol Brown of Portales, NM, Rebecca Boyett and husband Ron of Peralta, NM, two sisters Dorothy Bullard of Colorado Springs, CO, Frances Snipes of San Clemente, CA. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and along with numerous great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner, New Mexico with Dr. Joe Bunce officiating. Interment will follow in the Eldridge family plot in the Garden of Love, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Jacob Sanchez, Rustin Rowley, Bobby Marsh, Ernest Martinez, Walter Boyett, and Paul Lucero.
