Aurelio Lopez

Aurelio Gilbert Lopez, 46 of Fort Sumner passed away unexpectedly on April 4, 2026 in Fort Sumner, NM. Aurelio was born October 5, 1979 in Clovis, NM to the home of Dario and Ellen Maes Lopez. He grew up in Clovis, and attended Clovis Public Schools.

Aurelio and his family moved to Fort Sumner in 2002.

Aurelio worked as a plumber for G & C plumbing for many years. Most recently he worked as a carpenter in Ruidoso.

Aurelio was baptized and confirmed into the St Anthony Catholic Church. 

He enjoyed 4-wheeling, going fishing, and listening to music. A loving father and grandfather, spending time with his family is what brought him the most joy. He loved to be with his kids, spoil his grandkids, and to be at big family dinners with his siblings, and mom. And he loved to hang out with his godmother, and "favorite aunt" Theresa.

Aurelio is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Juan and Emilia Maes, his paternal grandparents Aurelio and Rayitos Lopez, his father Dario Lopez Sr in 2021,one brother Dario Lopez Jr in 2002, and one sister Linda Gonzales.

He is survived by his mother Ellen Lopez of Fort Sumner, his five children Aurelio Lopez Jr (Destiny) of Clovis, Lita Lopez (Rojelio) of Clovis, Isaiah Garcia Harper, Emilio Lopez, and Maria Lopez all of Fort Sumner, and six grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings Johnny Lopez (Bill Rives) of Albuquerque, Abel Lopez of Fort Sumner, Ramon Lopez (Joann) of Fort Sumner, Gerald Lopez of Fort Sumner, Perry Lopez (Maggie) of Phoenix, AZ, Larry Lopez (Traci) of Roswell, Irene Anaya (Andy) of Fort Sumner, Vicky Lopez of Fort Sumner, Pat Lopez of Gallup, NM. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Viewing will be held from 1 pm to 6 pm on Friday, April 10, 2026 at Chavez Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 10:00 am Saturday April 11, 2026 at the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Richard Terrell officiating. Pallbearers will include Aurelio Lopez Jr, Emilio Lopez, Isaiah Garcia Harper, Gilbert Lopez, Michael Lopez, Stash Sena, Abel Lopez, and Johnny Lopez. Honorary Pallbearers include Perry Lopez Sr, and Perry Lopez Jr.
