Barbara A. Serrano

Loving and Cherished Wife, Grandmother, Bereaved Mother, Sister, Aunt and Friend Barbara passed away on March 31, 2026, with her husband and family by her side at her residence in Santa Rosa, NM. She was born February 1, 1964, to the home of Amador Romero and Alice Barela Romero in Santa Rosa, NM.

As with many youth of her generation, attending school and being raised in Santa Rosa was a time of imagination, independence and adventure, ultimately creating fond lasting memories. Connecting school, time with family and friends, finding work wherever you get it, Barbara along with her sisters, brother, family and friends shared mutual support, respect and affection for each other, their families and community. A family member introduced Barbara to Jose (Joe) Serrano and from that moment a lifelong journey of cherished moments began between the two of them. Together they were beyond joyful to welcome their wonderful son Samuel. Jose and Barbara were married on June 25, 1994, in Santa Rosa. Sadly, they were heartbroken at the sudden and tragic loss of their son Sam in 2023.

Throughout her career, Barbara worked for the Red Rooster Restaurant in Santa Rosa, as Manager for Milspec in Santa Rosa, Manager for Jezlaine’s in Albuquerque, Manager for Ramada/La Quinta in Santa Rosa, Denny’s, and for Carl’s Jr. in Santa Rosa. Barbara shared a special adoring love for her son Sam, she enjoyed the time and moments spent with him like only a mother could. Her leisure time was laughing with cherished family and friends, traveling, and finding time to spend at a casino. She especially enjoyed her time spent with her friend and confidant Kris Aguilar.

Barbara is preceded in death by her beloved son Sam, her parents Amador and Alice, her sister Ida Sisneros, brother in-law Tomas (Red) Romo, father and mother in-law Charles and Angela Serrano, brother in-law Albert Serrano, godson Ryan Juardo.

Barbara is survived by her beloved family, husband Jose (Joe) Serrano; granddaughter Samarah and her mother Stephanie Lucero (Daniel Zamora); granddaughters Izabella and Lilu and their mother (daughter in-law) Erica Romero; siblings Angie Romero, Michael Romero, Rose Romero, Gloria (Albert) Madrid; in-laws Bertille (Mark) Serrano-Delgado, Charlene Urban, Darlene (Leroy) Bonney, Enrico (Lucille) Serrano, Gwendolyn Serrano, Hilario (Lori) Serrano, Ian (Yolanda) Serrano, Jorge (Michelle) Serrano, and many loving nephews, nieces and friends.

A Rosary and Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, NM. Following the services, she will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery in Santa Rosa with her son Sam.

Serving as Urn Bearers will be Samarah Serrano, Josh Romero, Javier Romero, Michael Romero Jr., Victoria Polania, and Santiago Romero.

In addition, honorary Urn Bearers will be Izabella Serrano, Lilu Serrano, Carlos Polania, Mateo Polania, alongside all her nieces and nephews.
