Benito A. Martinez

  Benito A. Martinez, 77, formerly of Tucumcari, NM passed away on Friday, August 16, 2019, at his daughter’s residence in Albuquerque, NM. He was born on March 16, 1942, in Tucumcari, NM to the home of Alfonso Nicasio and Gregorita (Garcia) Martinez. He was reared and attended school in Tucumcari, was a member of the New Mexico National Guard, and was a self-employed mason. A lifelong Catholic, he was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Tucumcari. Benito married Bernice on May 4, 1963. Benito is preceded in death by his parents Alfonso and Gregorita Martinez, wife Bernice M. Martinez (April 18, 2019), son Alex Martinez, daughter Bernadine Martinez, and brother Alfonso Martinez, Jr. Survivors include daughters Lisa Martinez and husband Dennis of Aztec, NM and Monica Burns of Albuquerque, NM; son Julian Martinez of Tucumcari, NM; grandchildren Jeremy, Alicia, Jonathan, Vanessa, Manuel, Donna, Darius, Dedra, Jakus, Zach and Alex; numerous great-grandchildren; brother Gilbert Martinez and wife Stella of Tucumcari, NM; sisters Gloria Sandoval and husband Ben of Clovis, NM, and Martha Diaz of Albuquerque, NM; and sister in law Mary Martinez of Tucumcari, NM. Also surviving are numerous other family and friends. Visitation will be just prior to the Rosary from 8:30 – 9:00 A.M. at St. Anne's. Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary is scheduled for Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at 9:00 A.M. at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Tucumcari, NM and the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 A.M., with Father John Paul Afuecheta officiating.  Interment will take place at Tucumcari Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be, Jeremy Burns, Dennis Martinez, Jakus Martinez, Zach Martinez, Manuel Martinez, and Michael Chavez.
