Blas Lopez

Blas Lopez, 86 of Tucumcari, NM, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024.

Blas was born on March 6, 1938 in Tucumcari, NM to Carlos Lopez and Felipita (Martinez) Lopez. Blas was raised in Tucumcari, where he attended St. Anne’s Catholic School. 

Blas was married to Nellie Lopez at St. Anne’s on May 13, 1961. A life-long resident of Tucumcari, Blas worked for Tucumcari Public Schools for 20 years and with Tucumcari Housing Authority, until his retirement in 2003. Blas was also a parishioner at St. Anne’s Catholic Church.

In his spare time, Blas loved being in the outdoors, working on his lawn and roasting green chile—however, Blas’s greatest joy came from the time he spent with his family.

Blas is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Nellie, his sister: Carlie Baca, two brothers and daughter-in-law: Peggy Lopez.

Blas is survived by his daughter: Maryann Lopez and his son: Ricky Lopez, 5 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, family and friends.

Visitation for family and friends will begin at 9:30AM on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Tucumcari.

Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 29, 2024 beginning at 10:30AM at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Tucumcari, with Father Cameron Degani officiating the service.

Interment will follow at Tucumcari Memorial Park, with Marcus Lopez, Jonathan Lopez, Matthew Benavidez, Jimmy Lucero, Anthony Garcia and Alvin Benavidez serving as Pallbearers.
