Boni Lucero

Bonifacio "Boni" Lucero, 89 of Vaughn, New Mexico passed away Sunday night, October 6, 2019 at his home in Vaughn with his family at his bedside. Bonifacio was born in Pintada, New Mexico on May 14, 1930 to the home of Esequiel and Manuelita (Segura) Lucero. He grew up in Pintada and attended school at Pintada and Sombrillo. He was a cattle rancher for several years. Boni married Amy Luna in Santa Rosa, NM on April 23, 1979. He worked for the NM Highway Department at the Vaughn Patrol for two years. He worked for many years as a custodian at the Vaughn Municipal Schools until his retirement in 1992. Following his retirement he worked as a ranch hand for Johnny and Dolores Madril. He was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vaughn. According to Boni's family his favorite pastime was swinging the "mata mosca". When he was done with the flies he worked on the ants. Boni is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Elauterio Lucero, Percelino Lucero, Lefonso Lucero, Antonio Lucero, and a sister Linda Lucero. Survivors include his wife Amy Luna Lucero of Vaughn,  two sons Gilbert Lucero and Paul Boni Lucero both of Vaughn, daughters Dulce Lucero of Albuquerque, Sandra Rodarte of Vaughn, Trinnie Rodriquez (Rafael) of Vaughn, a daughter in law Kathie Lucero of Vaughn, and the mother of his grandchildren, Valerie Mondragon. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren Janet, Ramona, Cynthia, Doreen, Loretta, Marlene, Crystal, Ashley, Harold, Bobby, Richard, Christopher,  Esequiel, Marcos, and Angelo along with several great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and a very close and dear niece Stella Luna and family of Vaughn. Other survivors include a brother in law Jose Ernest Luna and his wife Erlinda, sisters in law Josie Lucero, Jeanne Luna, Terry Luna, Viola Vigil, and Oki Luna. Visitation hours will be Wednesday, October 9, 2019 from 1pm to 4pm at Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner. The casket will be open at the church one hour prior to the services. Holy Rosary followed by the Mass of Christian Burial will be begin at 10:00 am Thursday, October 10, 2019 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vaughn, New Mexico with Father Leonard Paskus officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Vaughn. Pallbearers will be Teri Apodaca, Florinda Gauna, Pamela Cordova, Yvonne Hindi, Nubia Lozano, Rosann Maes, Alice Martinez, Rosalie Ortega, Bernice Sanchez, Carmen Langley, and Floraida Tapia. Honorary bearers will include Manny Aguilar, Frank Aragon, Norbert Archibeque, Lou Chavez, Jude Gallegos, Johnny Madril, Paul Madril, Pat J. Maes, Alfredo Roybal, and Don Sanchez.
