Brigida Ann Anaya, 56 of Tucumcari, NM passed away Friday, June 26, 2020 in Tucumcari following an illness. She was born June 18, 1964 in Fort Sumner the daughter of Nestora Coronado and Antonio Anaya. Brigida attended Fort Sumner schools and graduated from Fort Sumner High School. She made her home in Tucumcari, NM for the past 28 years. She was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Tucumcari, a member of the Knights of Columbus Women's auxiliary, and a PSI supporter. According to her family she was the "Mother Hen" of the organizations where she volunteered her time. Brigida enjoyed Bingo, embroidery, adult coloring books, reading, spending quality time with her god-daughter, Julie Archuleta and many nieces, nephews and friends. Brigida is preceded in death by her father Antonio Anaya, mother Nestora Anaya Coronado, three sisters, Mary Ann Marroquin, Helen Barela Martinez, Isabel Lopez, a brother Abran Barela, two brother's-in-law Alfred Rivera and Mike Santillanes. Survivors include her companion for the past 28 years, Jose P. Maldonado of Tucumcari, four sisters Trancita Santillanes of Denver, CO, Lucy Rael of Albuquerque, Yolanda Rivera of Santa Rosa, Connie Campos (Jerry) of Santa Rosa, and a brother Joseph Marroquin (Marcella) of Tucumcari, NM along with several nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Social Distancing guidelines, services were private and limited to the immediate family. We ask that you keep Brigida and her family in your prayers. A memorial Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 am Tuesday, July 2, 2020 at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Tucumcari with Father John Paul Afuecheta officiating. Graveside interment of cremains followed at 1:30 pm at St. Anthony Cemetery in Fort Sumner with Father Sotero Sena officiating. Urn bearer was her god-daughter, Julie Archuleta. Honorary bearers were all her nieces and nephews. Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N. Fifth Street, Fort Sumner, NM. (575) 355-2311.
