Carlos B. Romero

Carlos B. Romero, 95, of Colonias, NM passed away at New Mexico Heart Hospital in Albuquerque, NM on November 30, 2018. Carlos was born to the home of Carlos Boromeo Romero and Elvira (Gallegos) Romero on May 16, 1923 in Colonias, NM.  Carlos was reared in Colonias and attended school in Santa Rosa.  On July 9, 1944, Carlos married Conferina “Confy” Martinez. Carlos was a veteran and served in the US Army in World War II on the European front.  He was privileged to have served under the command of General George Patton, earning three Battle Stars-one being The Battle of the Bulge.  After his honorable discharge, Carlos lived in Brighton, Colorado and in Denver, Colorado where he worked as a butcher for 30 plus years, before retiring to his home in Colonias in the early 1980’s.  Together Carlos, and his wife Confy, were members of the Spanish Choir for Saint Rose of Lima in Santa Rosa and for Nuestra Senora del Rufugio in Puerto De Luna.  Carlos was a devoted parishioner at Saint Rose of Lima in Santa Rosa and at Colonias De San Jose Church in Colonias.  He was also active at American Legion Post 101 in Anton Chico and VFW Post 2841 in Brighton, Colorado. In addition to his membership in church choirs, Carlos was a musician and an accomplished wood carver—he carved crucifixes that are now displayed at San Jose in Colonias and in Alabama. Carlos is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Confy, daughter Sophie Romero, sisters; Grace Sisneros, Katherine Sexton, Cecilia “Cyl” Lalla and a brother. Carlos is survived by his daughters; Angelina Gochenour and husband Martin of Denver, CO, Viola Romero ( Benjamin Rios) of Gilcrest, CO, Elvira “Billie” Bachicha of Brighton, CO, Veronica L. Garcia and husband Richard of Brighton, CO,  Martha Perea and husband Richard of Bernalillo, NM and son; Ralph Romero of Colonias.  Also surviving are 22 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary is scheduled for Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M., with Father Christopher Bernabe officiating.  Interment with military honors will follow at San Jose Cemetery in Colonias.Serving as Pallbearers will be; Lou Zegarra, Ralph Romero, Jr., Conrad Chavez, Rick Romero, Richard Garcia and Carlos Romero.  Honorary Pallbearers are; Zane Martinez and Estevan Sanchez. Visitation will be Monday, December 3, 2018 from 1:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. and on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 from 1:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at Chavez Funeral Home in Santa Rosa.
