Carlos Romero, Jr.

Carlos Romero, 88 of Santa Rosa, NM, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, January 5, 2024.

Carlos was born on May 17, 1935 in San Ignacio, NM to Carlos Romero and Adelicia (Montoya) Romero.  Carlos was raised in Santa Rosa, where he attended school and graduated from Santa Rosa High School.  On April 28, 1957, Carlos married the former Elizabeth “Lizzy” Chavez.  Together, Carlos and Lizzy made their home in Santa Rosa. 

Carlos worked for Truck Stops of American, and later managed NAPA from 1975 until his retirement in 2015.  A lifelong Catholic, Carlos was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa and the Knights of Columbus.  In his spare time, Carlos enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fixing cars and gardening.  However, his greatest joy came from the time he spent with his family.

Carlos is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lizzy in 2022, his sisters: Ann Guin, Flora Arrellin and Susie Villescas and his daughter-in-law: Christina Romero.

Carlos is survived by his children: Dennis Romero, Diane Velasquez (Eddie), both of Santa Rosa, and Priscilla (Coby) Bartram, of Las Cruces, NM, his sisters: Piedad Gutierrez and Julia Reed, his  grandchildren: Vanessa Romero, Erica Baca, Brian Baca, Tyler McKie, Pasquale Romero, Nicholas Romero and Graham Burns, his great-grandchildren: Tiana Romero, Dasia Romero-Pacheco, Lorenzo Lucero, Nastasia Lucero, Justyce Maestas, Emma Baca, Bryden McKie and Azael Romero, his great-great-grandchildren: Azariah, Jose Carlos “JC” Lozano and Ahmeara Lozano.  Also, surviving Carlos are numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Visitation for Carlos will be Friday, January 12, 2024 from 1-6PM at Chavez Funeral Home in Santa Rosa.

Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary followed by the Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 11AM at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa. Father Sotero Sena will officiate the service.

Pallbearers will include: Kevin Campos, Pasqual Romero, Brian Baca, Tyler Mckie, Nicolas Romero and Phil Sanchez.
