Catherine Marie Garcia

Catherine Marie Garcia, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on August 11, 2025, in her hometown of Tucumcari, New Mexico. Born on May 13, 1972, Catherine’s life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family and her career in healthcare.

Catherine graduated from Tucumcari High School in 1991 and pursued her passion for helping others by earning her Associate of Science in Nursing from Central New Mexico Community College in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She worked as a surgical technician at Dr. Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital and later as a nurse for Presbyterian Medical Group and Presbyterian Hospice, where she made significant contributions to the wellbeing of her patients. Her compassion and skill in her profession earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and those she cared for throughout her career.

Catherine cherished her time spent with her granddaughters, Annaliah Vargas, Jennabelle Vargas, and Ariella Catherine Chappell. Her nurturing nature extended beyond her immediate family as she embraced her role as a great mom to her son, Dimitri Chappell (Diedra). Catherine's love for her family was evident in all that she did, providing support and guidance while creating lasting memories.

She is survived by her son Dimitri (Diedra) Chappell, her granddaughters Annaliah Vargas, Jennabelle Vargas, and Ariella Catherine Chappell, her siblings Pamela Meier, Nicasio Garcia, Jr., Erlinda Garcia, and Gregorio Garcia, and numerous nephews, nieces, family, and friends who will miss her dearly.

Catherine is preceded in death by her father Nicasio Garcia, Sr., and her mother Feliciana Martinez. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she loved and who loved her in return. As we remember Catherine, we celebrate her life of service, her unwavering strength, and her unbreakable bonds with her family and friends.

Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial, will be Saturday, August 23, 2025 beginning at 10:30AM at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Tucumcari, NM, with Father Cameron Degani officiating the service.

Interment of cremains will follow at Tucumcari Memorial Park.
