Charlotte (Sena) Griego, 88 a lifelong resident of Fort Sumner passed away at her home surrounded by her family on January 10, 2026. Charlotte was born to the home of Carlos T and Christine (Casaus) Sena on September 14, 1937 in Fort Sumner, NM. Charlotte grew up in Fort Sumner and attended Fort Sumner Schools.
Charlotte married Albaro Griego on June 29, 1959 in Fort Sumner. Together the two of them continued to call Fort Sumner their home and raised their three children Michael, Susan, and Johnny Ray Griego. Charlotte was a loving mother, and wife. She took great care of her home, and family.
Charlotte worked and retired from the Fort Sumner Schools cafeteria department where she worked with her mom Christine Sena and Aunt Ernestine Sena. She always said working at the school was the best of both worlds- as she was always near her children when they started school and home with them during summer and holiday breaks.
Charlotte was a member of the Saint Anthony Catholic Church, and stayed true to her faith long after she was unable to attend Sunday Mass. She would watch Mass on the TV.
She enjoyed watching her daytime soap operas, Days of our Lives and Another World. In recent years she found herself loving to watch novelas, and even convinced her son Johnny to sit and watch them with her.
Charlotte was also an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. She could often be heard yelling at the TV during a game, not at the players on the field but the coaches on the sideline making insane play calls.
Her pride and joy was her one and only grandson, Michael Paul. He had her heart wrapped around his little finger at birth. Charlotte was blessed with three great grandchildren - Malcolm Kevin, Logan Lee, and Tatum Rae whom she adored.
Charlotte is preceded in death by her parents Carlos T and Christine (Casaus) Sena, her husband Albaro Griego, son Michael Griego, brother Johnny Sena, sister Terry Griego, niece Joy Griego, nephew Enrique Sena, sister in law Della Sena, brother in law Rudy Barrera, mother in law Carolina Griego, sister in law and brother in law Cruzita and Ramon Sena, nephew Daniel Sena, brother in law and sister in law Juan and Viola Griego, sister in law Esther Griego, and sister in law Jo Griego.
Charlotte is survived by her daughter Susan Gallegos and husband Steve, her son Johnny Ray Griego, her grandson Michael Paul Gallegos (Cathy Byrd), three great grandchildren Malcolm, Logan, and Tatum. She is survived by three brothers Jimmy Sena of Santa Rosa, Joe and Patricia Sena of Fort Sumner, Larry and Martha Sena of Bernalillo; six sisters Lourdes and Ernesto Nieto of Rio Rancho, Barbara and Tom Madrid of Queen Creek, Arizona, Mary and Alfred Madrid of Albuquerque, Veronica and Ernest Madrid, Isabelle Lamkin of Albuquerque, and Margaret Barrera of Amarillo, TX. She is also survived by her brothers in law: Nick Griego of Fort Sumner, Sam Griego of Los Montoyas, NM , and Raymond Griego of Hawaii. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and 3 very special friends Betty Gonzales, Mary Faye Griego, and Rosella Lopez.
