Danny Lee Sweitzer

Danny Lee Sweitzer, 59 of Phoenix, Arizona, passed unexpectedly on Sunday June 23rd 2019 while enjoying a day with family and friends at Lake Sumner in New Mexico.  Dan was a charismatic, warm, considerate, and funny man who deeply loved his family and took every opportunity to spend time with them. He loved cooking, especially barbecuing, for and with family and friends. As an avid outdoors-man Dan's favorite past time was fishing and camping. He loved to take family and friends out on the boat, especially his much adored grandchildren who he patiently and lovingly taught how to reel in a fish and pitch a tent. He enjoyed hiking National Parks and many other activities where he could take his grandchildren along with him. Among many things Dan enjoyed history, baseball, and reading. He was very knowledgeable and always learning, he especially enjoyed teaching what he knew to others. As a devoted dog owner wherever you found Dan his beloved Lucy was close by.  Dan was born to James Norman Sweitzer and his wife Maurine (Moore) on Tuesday May 10th, 1960 in Phoenix Arizona. Dan grew up in Arizona and Southern Utah, both places he loved very much.  After graduating from Cortez High School in Phoenix Arizona Dan spent some time working for a veterinarian with horses a time he enjoyed very much. A few years later Dan joined the Navy. After leaving the Navy he began work in the road construction industry primarily located in the South Western United States. His skills with equipment in this field allowed him to travel to many locations around the world. He lastly worked for K Barnett Construction in Clovis, New Mexico as Operations Manager, a company which he admired greatly.  Dan is preceded in death by his father Jim Sweitzer in 2018, his former wife Kathy Sweitzer in 2005, and his former companion Phyllis Sweet in 2016. Survivors include his mother Maurine Sweitzer, five children, two daughters, Joanna Chaney and Barbara Sweitzer, three sons Brandon Sweitzer and his wife Lisa, Adam Sweitzer, Rian Sweet and his wife Maggie. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Kael and Alastair Chaney, and Joshua, Lucas, Bailey, Ollie, and Michael Sweitzer along with six siblings, three brothers Jim Sweitzer and his wife Cris, Richard Sweitzer, Michael Sweitzer, three sisters Kandis Rausch and her husband Mike, Kerri Sweitzer, and Kristi Sweitzer. Other survivors include former wife Ellen Morrison and many nieces, nephews, other relatives along with a host of friends. Dan was a deeply loved son, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be forever missed.  His family would like to offer a special thank you to Dan's friends and employers at K Barnett Construction in New Mexico during for their love, help and support throughout this difficult time.  Services to be announced.    Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N.
