Darrell Eugene Moody, a dedicated and hardworking man whose life journey spanned numerous states and vocations, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026, in Tucumcari, New Mexico. Born on January 6, 1946, in Heber Springs, Arkansas, Darrell’s early years were rooted in the warmth of family and community. He was the beloved son of the late Cecil Floyd and Nadine Alice (Bragg) Moody.

Darrell attended Southside Schools in Southside, Arkansas, where the foundation for his strong work ethic was laid. His service to his country stands as a testament to his character; he served with honor in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. In his role as a Communications Technician and Forward Observer, Darrell demonstrated courage and commitment under challenging circumstances. His military service forged lifelong bonds with fellow veterans, and he remained an active member of both the VFW and the American Legion, participating in annual reunions with his comrades.

Throughout his life, Darrell undertook a variety of roles that highlighted his versatility and dependability. His career included working as a janitor and bus driver for Southside Schools, contributing to the essential maintenance and transportation needs of the community. Later, he applied his skills in roofing with Nava Apache Roofing in Pinetop, Arizona, and drove trucks for Julian Martin Construction. His hands-on expertise also saw him building barns in Kentucky and serving in the Corps of Engineers in Abbeville, Alabama. Toward the later years of his working life, Darrell was a maintenance man for an apartment complex in Dalton, Georgia—always exemplifying dedication and craftsmanship.

On December 25, 1970, Darrell married his devoted wife, Donna Fay Powell, in Batesville, Arkansas. Their union was a central pillar of his life, filled with love and companionship. Together, they raised three sons: Jamison Moody and his wife Dianne of Frederick, Maryland; Floyd Edward Moody of Duluth, Minnesota; and Jason Moody of Jackson, Tennessee. Darrell’s pride and joy extended to his granddaughter, Angel Moody of Frederick, Maryland. Family was paramount to Darrell, and he also shared a close bond with his brother, Deloy Moody and his wife Elsie of Cave City, Arkansas. The circle of family and friends who cherished him is broad and deeply grateful for his presence in their lives.

Though preceded in death by his parents Cecil Floyd and Nadine Alice Moody, and his sister Nathleen Gail Moody, Darrell’s legacy endures through his living family and the many lives he touched. He will be remembered for his steadfast spirit, his loyalty to his country and comrades, and his enduring love for his family.

Darrell Eugene Moody leaves behind a life well-lived, marked by service, perseverance, and genuine kindness. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by his wife Donna Fay Moody, sons Jamison, Floyd Edward, and Jason; granddaughter Angel; brother Deloy Moody; and a host of nephews, nieces, family, and friends who held him in the highest regard.

His story is one of dedication—to country, family, and community—and it stands as an enduring reminder of a man who lived with honor and care.
