David Abeyta, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and respected member of his community, passed away on June 6, 2026, at Guadalupe County Hospital after a long illness, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 2, 1951, in Santa Rosa, New Mexico, David’s life was marked by hard work, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to his family.
David’s journey began early; at the age of 14, he started working at The Dairy Bar, demonstrating from a young age a strong work ethic that would define his character. After graduating from Santa Rosa High School in 1970, where he was educated following his studies at St. Rose of Lima Catholic School, David pursued further education at Luna Community College, earning a welding certification that equipped him with valuable skills. His early career included construction work until age 22, followed by employment at Leslie Harrison Windmill Services. A significant chapter of his professional life was spent at First National Bank, later known as Norwest and Wells Fargo Bank, where he dedicated 24 years of service. Following this, David worked at Los Amigos Nursing Home before concluding his career with 12 years at Guadalupe County, retiring in 2016.
David was a man whose spirit shone brightly in everyday moments. Known for his humor, constantly making jokes, laughing, smiling, and whistling, he was humble and hardworking, embodying an outlook that inspired those around him. He often encouraged his grandchildren to "stay busy" and reminded them that “there is always something to do.” Even during his final days, his strength was evident as he declared with resolve, “no pain, no gain.”
His home and yard were places of pride and craftsmanship. He could often be found working in his shed, welding gates, or building various projects. Perhaps his proudest accomplishment was building the home he shared with his beloved wife, Pablita Abeyta—a sanctuary where their family generations would gather to create treasured memories.
David’s love for family was central to his life. He cherished watching his grandchildren grow and taking pleasure in their sports activities with the Lions. He found joy listening to station 89.1/KANM, crafting chicharrones on his disco, and taking leisurely cruises in what he affectionately called his “Old Reliable” truck.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Pablita Abeyta; three children: Eileen (Peter) Ulibarri, Abel (Tammie) Abeyta, and Susan (Billy) Abeyta-Lynch; his grandchildren, Leah Ulibarri, Ashley Abeyta, Geri Ulibarri, Mariah Lynch, David Abeyta, Jose Gallegos, and Miguel Gallegos; and great-grandchildren Sevieria Ulibarri and Cataleya Ulibarri. David’s siblings Mary (Vincent) Silva, Fabiola (Nick) Romero, and Joe (Monica) Abeyta also survive him, alongside numerous nephews, nieces, family members, and friends who will remember his gentle spirit and steady presence.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Abelino and Rita Abeyta; his sister, Stella Campos; and his in-laws Filiberto and Ignacia Cordova.
