David Lee Varela

David Lee Varela, 57 of Tucumcari, NM went home to be with the Lord peacefully, on Tuesday, September 1, 2020. David was born on April 1, 1963 in Denver, Colorado to the home of Jose Solomon Varela and Eva Rosita (Maestas) Varela. Following high school David joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he received an Honorable Discharge after his tour of duty. David enjoyed fishing and playing horseshoes, however his greatest pass time was the time he spent with his family and friends. David is preceded in death by his parents, a son; Alex in 2019, and a brother; Ralph. David is survived by his wife Elsie Varela, of the family home, a son; David, Jr., sister; Stella and brother; Dennis. He is also survived by his step-children; Josie, Ben and Robert, a sister-in-law; Sharon as well as 14 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson and numerous nephews, nieces, family and friends. Also surviving David are his dogs; Chico and Baby, whom he referred to as “My Stinkies”. David was laid to rest at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 with Military Honors, with Robert Mecillas, Dennis Varela, Nick Varela and Brian Varela serving as Pall Bearers. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic Social Distancing guidelines, services were private and limited to the immediate family. We ask that you keep David and his family in your prayers.
