Deanna M. Gonzales, 87 of Santa Rosa, NM, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, June 10, 2022. Deanna was born on April 21, 1935 in Santa Rosa to Solomon Martinez and Alicia (Gallegos) Martinez. Deanna was raised in Santa Rosa, where she also attended school—graduating from Santa Rosa High School. While in high school, Deanna was crowned Homecoming Queen in 1953. Deanna was married to George Gonzales on August 30, 1958 at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa. Together, George and Deanna raised their family in Borica, NM and Santa Rosa. Deanna’s career took her down various paths, as she worked as a clerk at Teeter’s and at Town and Country Clothiers and she was also a school bus driver for Santa Rosa Consolidated Schools. She and George worked together to build the family ranch while simultaneously building George’s Windmill Service, established in 1970 and G & D Land and Cattle Co. in 2002. Deanna was a devout Catholic and an active parishioner of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church. In her spare time, Deanna was a member of the Powder Horn Cowbelles, Mayordoma for the San Isidro Catholic Church in Borica, and helped with the restoration of the San Isidro Church. Following their marriage, Deanna and George settled in Salado, NM—5 miles west of Sumner Lake—the original Gonzales Homestead, before moving to the Borica ranch in 1962. In 2000, Deanna and George moved to the current ranch, located on south Highway 54, known as G & D Land and Cattle Co. Deanna enjoyed sewing, crocheting and embroidering. She was also an accomplished seamstress and quilter and loved to garden and cook—making the best tortillas! Deanna is preceded in death by her parents, brother: Fred Martinez and grandson: Michael Anthony Campos. Deanna is survived by her husband: George Gonzales of the family home, son: Glenn G. Gonzales (Gilda) of Santa Rosa and daughters: Juliet Gonzales Campos (Tim) of Santa Rosa and Joyce Gonzales Enevoldsen (Tim) of Amarillo, TX, 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous family, relatives and friends. The family wishes to extend a special “Thank You” to Deanna’s caregivers, who took such wonderful care of her. Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 7pm at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 10am at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with Father Christopher Bernabe officiating the service. Interment will follow in the family plot at Saint Joseph Cemetery in Santa Rosa with grandchildren: Jason Gonzales, Erica Gallegos, Moises Gallegos, Michael Lopez, Alicia Gonzales, Krista Arenas, Ben Arenas, Timothy Campos, Danica Gonzales, Kaitlyn Enevoldsen and Celina Gonzales serving as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Manuel Herman Gonzales, Martin Gonzales and Great-grandchildren: Adryanno, Tristen, Xander, Alianna, Augustine, Keithan and Ian.
