Dorothy Martinez

Dorothy Ann Martinez, a cherished resident of Tucumcari, NM, gracefully departed this life on September 19, 2025, at the age of 71. Surrounded by her beloved family in the warmth of her home, Dorothy’s peaceful journey into the next realm reflects the love she cultivated throughout her life.

Born on November 6, 1953, to Joe and Josie (Sandoval) Martinez, Dorothy’s roots ran deep in Tucumcari, where she was raised and educated in the local public schools. Over the years, she endeavored through several careers, from her early days as a seamstress in a clothing factory to becoming a compassionate nurse’s aide. However, it was her role as a foster grandmother for the Head Start program that truly captured her heart, allowing her to touch the lives of many children and families in her community.

Dorothy embodied the essence of love and warmth; she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and sister. Her passion for dancing, crocheting, and hosting family gatherings brought joy to those around her, but nothing lit up her spirit quite like the precious moments spent with her children and grandchildren.

She is now reunited in spirit with her parents, Joe and Josie Martinez, along with five brothers and two sisters who preceded her in death. Dorothy's legacy lives on through her dedicated children, Joey (Adrienne) Martinez and Angela (Angel) Griego, who continue to carry forward her love and values. Her grandchildren—A.J., Devin, Dominic, Alyshia, and Nathaniel—will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

Dorothy is also survived by her loving siblings, Lillian Mendez, Stella Maes, and Annie Vargas Martinez, along with numerous nephews, nieces, and treasured friends who will miss her dearly.

Visitation for friends and family will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 1 PM to 6 PM at Chavez Funeral Home in Santa Rosa. 

The recitation of The Most Holy Rosary will take place at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Tucumcari on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 6 PM. A Funeral Mass, led by Father Sotero Sena, will be celebrated on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 10 AM, at St. Anne's, followed by interment at Tucumcari Memorial Park. Pallbearers including Chuy Mendez, Jose Vargas Martinez, Marcos Martinez, J.J. Chavez, Juan Martinez, and Johnny Joe Sanchez will honor her memory during this final farewell.
