Eduviges Lopez

Eduviges “Vickie” Alarcon Lopez, 94, of Santa Rosa, NM, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 29, 2019 at Vecinos Sanos Assisted Living surrounded by her loving family.  Eduviges was born on February 7, 1925 on the family ranch to Gonzalo Alarcon and Dolores Alarcon in Santa Isabel, Chihuahua, Mexico where she was also raised, helping in the daily operations of the farm and ranch where elder family members recall her as being a skilled horse rider. Eduviges married Leopoldo Lopez in 1940 in Santa Isabel, Chihuahua, Mexico.  They made their home in Chihuahua and Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico where they were involved in the Food Business.  After the passing of her husband, Leopoldo in 1983, she moved to Santa Rosa, NM to be with her daughters.  For many years she worked in her daughter’s family business, Route 66 Restaurant and the former Shawford Motel.  Eduviges was a master cook and enjoyed cooking her famous Mexican Dishes for her family.  She enjoyed quilting, going to the casinos and especially spending time with her family.  Eduviges was a faithful parishioner of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church and prayed the Rosary daily. Eduviges is preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Pedro, Inocente and Luis and sister; Dolores.  She is also preceded in death by her husband; Leopoldo Lopez, sons; Francisco, Ignacio, Ernesto and Manuel, grandsons; Ignacio (Nachito) Lopez and Ramon Lopez, daughters-in-law; Cecilia (late Ernesto) Lopez and Inez (Candelario) Lopez. She is survived by her sons; Candelario (late Inez) Lopez of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, Salvador (Michelle) Lopez of Yukon, Oklahoma, daughters; Mary (late Pat) Velasquez of Santa Rosa, Silvia (Andy) Madrid of Santa Rosa and Rosa (Delfino) Montaño of Anton Chico, NM.  She is also survived by her daughters-in-law; Juana (late Ignacio) Lopez and Manuela (late Manuel) Lopez of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.  Also surviving are 24 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Visitation will be Monday, December 2, 2019 from 1-6 PM at Chavez Funeral Home in Santa Rosa, NM.  Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at 10 AM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, celebrated by Father Christopher Bernabe.  Burial will follow in the family plot at Saint Joseph Cemetery in Santa Rosa, with Leopoldo (Polo) Lopez, Danny Montaño, Ralph Montaño, Richard Lopez, Jonathan Lopez, Frank Madrid, Eddie Velasquez and Billy Velasquez serving as Pallbearers.
