Elizabeth "Lizzy" Romero

Elizabeth “Lizzy” Romero passed away peacefully on Friday, January 7, 2022, in Las Cruces, NM. Lizzy was born on January 27, 1938, in Santa Rosa, NM to home of Alberto and Margarita (Olivas) Chavez. Lizzy was raised in Santa Rosa, where she also attended school. She married Carlos Romero on April 24, 1957, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Santa Rosa, NM. Lizzy enjoyed crocheting, singing and her trips to the casino. A lifelong Catholic, she was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa and the Catholic Daughters of America. Lizzy is preceded in death by her parents: Alberto and Maggie Chavez, her brothers: Albert Chavez and Fernie Chavez, her sisters: Jesse Chavez, Ramona Padilla, Connie Aragon, and Corrine Marquez. Lizzy is survived by her husband: Carlos Romero, her children: Dennis Romero, Diane Velasquez and Priscilla Bartram, her grandchildren: Vanessa Romero, Erica Baca, Brian Baca, Tyler McKie, Pasquale Romero, Nicholas Romero and Graham Burns, her great-grandchildren: Tiana Romero, Dasia Romero-Pacheco, Nastasia Lucero, Justyce Maestas, Lorenzo Lucero, Emma Baca, Bryden McKie and Azael Romero, her great-great-grandchildren: Azariah and Jose Carlos “JC” Lozano. Also, surviving are Lizzy’s siblings: Annie Campos (Leroy), Margaret Padilla (Victor) and Ernie Chavez (Rose) along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, from 1 – 6pm at Chavez Funeral Home, Santa Rosa, NM, then again on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, from 1 – 2pm at St. Rose of Lima Church. Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary followed by the Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at 2pm at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, officiated by Father Christopher Bernabe. Lizzy will be laid to rest at Saint Joseph Cemetery in Santa Rosa with Paz Romero, Tyler McKie, Brian Baca, Leroy Campos, Kevin Campos and Phil Sanchez serving as Pallbearers.
