Elsie Gallegos, age 82 was born April 20, 1937 in Fort Sumner to the home of Jose Rosauro and Juanita (Casaus) Gallegos. She passed away on Friday, October 11, 2019 at Bear Canyon Rehabilitation Center in Albuquerque. Elsie grew up and attended school in Fort Sumner. She loved children and caring for infants. She worked for many years as a babysitter/nanny for several Fort Sumner families. She also worked as the nursery caregiver at The Church on The Hill for several years. In her younger years she worked for the Zia Theatre. For the past three years Elsie has made her home at Bear Canyon Rehabilitation Center in Albuquerque. She enjoyed watching TV and especially her “Novelas”. Elsie is a lifelong member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Elsie is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Raymundo Gallegos, Rosauro Gallegos, Guadalupe Gallegos, four sisters Florence Gallegos, Rosarito Gallegos, Cecilia Greenier, and Ernestine Sena. Survivors include one brother Greg Gallegos and his wife Rita of Fort Sumner, two sisters in law Faye Gallegos of Albuquerque and Rosie Gallegos of Tucson, AZ, and a nephew she raised as a son, Steve Gallegos and his wife Susan of Fort Sumner along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Holy Rosary followed by the funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 am Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Sotero A. Sena officiating. Burial will follow in the Gallegos family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Roque Gallegos, Bobby Gallegos, Leo Sena, Skylar McMath, Anthony Gallegos, Tim Archuleta, and Michael Gallegos. Honorary bearers will be all her nieces and nephews.
