Emily Walling

Longtime Fort Sumner resident Emily P. Walling passed away June 4, 2019 in Plano, TX at the age of  89. She was born on August 29, 1929 to Sam W. Parten and Euna (DeLoach) Parten in Shreveport, Louisiana.  Emily married James O. Walling on July 8, 1950 at the 7J Ranch in Madisonville, Texas.  She worked with Jim as his administrative Assistant at James O. Walling CPA. Emily was also a high school math teacher. She loved playing bridge, setting up a bridge group at her latest residence. She loved to cook as witnessed by the mounds of cookbooks and cooking magazines she had. She and Jim loved to dance and were members of the Ft. Sumner dance club. Emily was so proud and loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Emily is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Lawrence of Plano, Texas and Fran Price and husband, Delton of Santa Fe, New Mexico; 5 grandchildren, Matthew Lawrence and wife, Melissa, Alicia Fabrisi and husband, Tim, Cody Price and Nicole, Sterling Price and Erin, and Nicole Van Houten and husband, Mike; great-grandchildren, Tyler(7), Jake (5), Claire(14 months), Jordan(8), and Hope(2); and niece, Virginia Powers. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim of 63 years; parents, Sam and Euna Parten; brother, Richard Parten; and great-granddaughter, Skyler Grace Fabrisi. Box 180, Ft, Sumner, NM 88119. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, July 13, 2019 in the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner, NM with Mary Gay McClain officiating.
