Enrique F. Sena, 47, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at his home in Hagerman, NM following lengthy health complications. He was born on February 15, 1978 at the DeBaca General Hospital in Fort Sumner, NM.
Enrique grew up in Santa Rosa and Fort Sumner attending Fort Sumner High School where he was a standout football player and proud to have been part of a dominating football team in the mid 90s capturing championships in 1995 and 1997. He went on to attend MESA Technical School specializing as a Ferrier then attending the State of NM Corrections Training Academy. He had a long career as a NM Correctional Officer beginning at the Guadalupe Couty Correctional Facility in Santa Rosa, NM and then at the Roswell Correctional Facility in Hagerman, NM. For the better part of his career Enrique took special pride as a K-9 Officer, He was devoted to his career and dedicated to the core values of a correctional officer along with his colleagues and friends.
Enrique enjoyed spending time roping with his friends including his joy of training with and shooting firearms. He had a special affection for his K-9s dedicating many hours to training, he also raised and nurtured many dogs throughout the years. He was an enthusiastic fan of the Dallas Cowboys but maintained an intense passion for the University of Texas Longhorns.
Most of all, Enrique loved spending time with his family and friends, he may not have expressed it much, but he was especially proud of his children whom he quietly and wholeheartedly adored. He was known to be a cranky guy at times but was also known to be funny and caring when you cut through his occasional sarcasm. Enrique suffered from a life of debilitating diabatic complications. His family and friends stood alongside him throughout the years, agonizing with him through his many challenges.
Enrique is proceeded in death by his paternal grandparents, Carlos T. and Christina Sena, and Andrew Ray (Bud) and Annie Guinn, and maternal grandparents, Charles and Angela Serrano.
Survivors include his parents, Gwendolyn Serrano of Santa Rosa, Joe Sena and Patricia of Fort Sumner, and Andy Ray Guinn.
His Beloved Children, Cameron Sena and Chelsea Sena of Santa Rosa, Kira Sena and Wyatt Sena of Hagerman, NM and Dreama Sena of Roswell, NM, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. His Sister Maria Sena and his nieces Christina Rodarte, Latisha Chavez, Ivana and Angelique Marquez and nephew Juan Carlos Federico of Santa Rosa; his Sister Martina Serrano and his nephew Lucas Serrano of Santa Rosa. Enrique also leaves behind many friends, but the most notable of which is his cousin and closest friend since childhood, Rubert Romero.
Public viewing will take place Monday, January 12, 2026 from 1pm – 6pm at Chavez Funeral Home in Santa Rosa and on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 from 9:15am – 10am at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa.
Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 10am at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, NM with Rev. Sotero Sena celebrating the mass.
Interment of cremains will take place on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at 10am at Fort Sumner Cemetery in Fort Sumner, NM. Pallbearers include Rubert Romero, Johnny Ray Griego, Marco Coca, Marcos Delgado, Antonio Orozco, James Sena, Jr., and Mark Mireles. Honorary Pallbearers include Juan Carlos Fedrico, Marisol Rael, Lucas Serrano, and Jerimah Mireles.
