Ethel Mae Kyle, 89 of Fort Sumner, NM passed away Friday morning, June 9, 2023. She was born January 4, 1934 in Corona, New Mexico to Roach Andrew Wilson and Blanche Stella Kiem. The family moved to Fort Sumner in 1938 where Ethel attended school. The family moved to Tucumcari, where Ethel later married Joseph Anderson Kyle on January 10, 1951.

 

Two children were born to this union, Linda and Joseph Glen. Joe and Ethel worked on Ranches near Fort Sumner all their married lives including the Phillip Reeves Ranch, Ben Good Jr. Ranch, and the Cooper-Erdwerm Ranch. Following Joe’s retirement in 1992, Joe and Ethel made Fort Sumner their home. Ethel is known for her many contributions of stuffed animals to different organizations for fundraising projects. According to Ethel’s family she enjoyed making a variety of stuffed animals for family and friends, she loved being a rancher’s wife, cooking, and helping neighbors.

 

Ethel is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph Anderson Kyle in 1999, two sisters Estelene Brady and Clodell McCloud, and a brother Norman Wilson.

 

Survivors include two children, daughter Linda Kyle of Fort Sumner and son Glen Kyle and his wife Venita of Clovis.

 

A family graveside interment service was held at 3:00 pm Friday, June 9, 2023. Ethel was laid to rest beside Joe in the Garden of Memory, Fort Sumner Cemetery.

 

The family requests contributions in memory of Ethel Mae Kyle to the Fort Sumner Cemetery Association, P. O. Box 180, Fort Sumner, New Mexico 88119 or the charity/organization of one's choice.
