Eva Gallegos

Eva Gallegos, 89 of Fort Sumner, NM joined her husband Leo in heaven on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. Eva passed away at her home following an extended illness. Eva was born June 12, 1932 in Clovis, NM, one of eleven children born to the home of Antonio and Paublita (Gonzales) Lucero. Eva grew up in Clovis, she attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School. Eva married Eulogio “Leo” Gallegos on March 6, 1952 in Clovis. They made their home in Clovis where Eva worked as a housekeeper at a Clovis motel. Eva enjoyed embroidery, reading, and working on puzzles. She loved visiting with people and especially spending time with her family. Leo and Eva made Fort Sumner their home in 1994. She and Leo were active members of St. Anthony Catholic Church, they spent many days caring for the church grounds and were caretakers of St. Anthony Cemetery for many years. Eva was preceded in death by her husband Leo Gallegos on December 01, 2013, her parents, six siblings, Esperanze Arthur, Flora Gallegos, Dolores Lucero, Jose Lucero, Estevan Lucero and Antonio Lucero Jr. Survivors include a sister Emma Salazar of Clovis, and brother Adan Lucero of Clovis, her children, daughters, Virginia Marbut (Robert) of Fort Sumner, Patricia Romero (Chris) of Gonzales Ranch, NM, Caroline Hall of Clovis, Linda Holdridge (Daryl) of Clovis, four sons, Eulogio Gallegos (Teresa) of Houston, TX, Charles Ray Gallegos of Fort Sumner, Carl Gallegos of Fort Sumner, and Richard Gonzales of Clovis. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren along with a host of other relatives and many friends. Visitation hours will be held for family and friends on Monday, February 7, 2022 from 1pm to 6pm. Holy Rosary and the funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner, NM with Father Sotero A. Sena officiating. Cremation will follow the services. Eva will be laid to rest with Leo at 10:00 am, Wednesday, February 9, 2022 in the Garden of Faith at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Robert Marbut, Daryl Holdridge, A.J. Lucero, Ira Hughes, Andres "Nano" Romero, and Drew Terrell. Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N.
