Evelyn "Eva" Chavez

Evelyn “Eva” Chavez, 85 of Santa Rosa, NM passed away peacefully in Albuquerque, NM on Monday, March 22, 2021. Evelyn was born on October 6, 1935 in Santa Rosa to Juan and Agneda (Martinez) Montoya. Evelyn lived in Clovis, NM and Roswell, NM before settling at the Chavez Ranch in 1959, where she made her home. Evelyn was married to Ernesto Chavez for 71 years and she was an active parishioner at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church and was also a member of Las Hijas De Maria and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Evelyn cared deeply for her family and cherished the time she spent with them. Evelyn is preceded in death by her daughter; Mary Jane, her son; Gene Chavez, her grandsons; Leo, Jr. and Geno, Jr., her brothers; Johnny, Michael and Lorenzo Montoya, her sister; Barbara Garcia and her daughter-in-law; Elena Chavez. Evelyn is survived by her husband; Ernesto Chavez, and her children and grandchildren; Joe (Roberta) Chavez, Billy (Frances) Chavez, Michael Chavez, Marie Chavez, Leo Chavez, Robert Chavez, Steve (Yolanda) Chavez, Ernie Chavez, Jerry (Rita) Chavez, Jeanette Chavez, Gabriel (Felicia) Chavez and Reyna Chavez. Evelyn will be laid to rest at the Santa Barbara Cemetery on the family ranch with Michael Steven Chavez, Guillermo Chavez, Miguel Chavez, Jaclyn Madrid, Gabriel Chavez, Santiago Chavez, Delano Chavez, Charlie Chavez and Marco Coca serving as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be; all Evelyn’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandson. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic Social Distancing guidelines, services will be private and limited to the immediate family. We kindly ask that you keep Evelyn and her family in your prayers.
