Jayson Raymond Lopez, age 49, of Clovis, NM, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 27, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on July 18, 1974 in Fort Sumner, Jayson was the son of Alberto “Beto” Lopez Jr. and Diana (Gonzales) Lopez. He was raised in Fort Sumner and graduated with the Class of 1992 from Fort Sumner High School.

Jayson made his home in Clovis, where he worked for K. Barnett Construction as a machine operator before embarking on a 23-year journey with BNSF Railroad as an Engineer. He married Robin Edward on August 17, 2004 in Portales, New Mexico. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clovis and St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Fort Sumner.

A cherished grandfather, Jayson found immense joy in the company of his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and the thrill of riding his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle.

Jayson is preceded in death by his father, Alberto "Beto" Lopez (2016), his paternal grandparents, Alberto Lopez Sr. (2012) and Paulita Lopez (2013), maternal grandparents Dolores Gonzales (2012) and Arturo Gonzales (2016), and his uncle Albert Gonzales (2021).

He is survived by his wife Robin Lopez of Clovis; his daughters Veronica Lopez (Francisco), Jaydah Lopez (Noah), step-daughter Michaela Fallis, step-son Abrey Fallis (Kayla), his mother Diane Lopez of Fort Sumner; a brother Joey Lopez of Fort Worth, TX; and his grandchildren Vicente, Levi, Amen, Serenity, Ezra, Mason, Aaron, Adelina, and Mia. Additionally, he leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, co-workers, and countless friends who were touched by his kindness and spirit.

Visitation hours for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, from 1pm to 5pm at the Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm Wednesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, with Father Moses Nwankwo officiating. Following the Mass, Jayson will be laid to rest in the Lopez family plot at Fort Sumner Cemetery. 

Pallbearers will include Caesar Gonzales, Randy Detrich, Nicholas Garcia, Jeremy Detrich, D.J. Gonzales, Charles Gonzales, Socorro Hernandez, Timmy Sena, Mark Roybal, Danny Zamora, Andy Martinez and Mike Saiz.  Honorary Pallbearers will include his friends, co-workers and family members who meant so much to him.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Fort Sumner Cemetery Association (P.O. Box 180, Fort Sumner, New Mexico 88119) or to the Cemetery Fund of St. Anthony Catholic Church (P.O. Box 370, Fort Sumner, New Mexico 88119).
