Jimmy A. Hines

Jimmy Alvin Hines, 81 of De Baca County, NM passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Guadalupe County Hospital following an illness. He was born June 3, 1937 in Laguna Beach, CA to the home of Otis Otto Hines and the former Daisy Mae Pixler. He grew up and attended schools in California. Jimmy made his home in New Mexico in 1980. He worked for the Powhatan Carter Ranch, and began his construction company J.A. Hines Construction. He built many homes in De Baca County and completed many remodels as well. He later moved to Logan, NM and back to California where he continued in the building construction business. Jimmy also worked as a farrier for many years. He retired in 2001. Jimmy attended the Methodist Church in Fort Sumner.When he was not working, Jimmy enjoyed team roping and fishing.Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, a son Billy Christie in 2003, and a son in law Mark Scherwitt.Survivors include his wife Joyce Hines of Fort Sumner, a son Kenneth Hines (Kathy) of Clovis, three daughters Debra Scherwitt of Katy, Texas, Jami De Jane (Guy) of Mead, Colorado, and Tonya Elwarth of T or C, along with one brother William Hines (Janice) of Vancouver, WA, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.The family requests memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to a favorite charity.No formal services are planned.Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N.
