Joe E. Chavez, 74 of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2022. Joe was born on April 12, 1948, in Albuquerque, NM to Julian Chavez and Teresa (Ulibarri) Chavez and Clara U. Chavez. Joe was raised in Clovis, NM and later moved to Santa Rosa, where he also attended school. In 1968, Joe joined the US Army, serving Honorably, in the Vietnam War. Following his discharge, Joe’s career took him in to law enforcement, where he was a probation officer for 12 years, and later became a police officer with APD. Joe retired after 33 years of service with APD. Joe earned his pilot’s license and regularly flew a Cessna airplane. In addition, Joe was also a member of the FOP—Fraternal Order of Police. Joe is preceded in death by his parents and Clara Chavez, his in-laws: Luis and Lugarda Saiz, his sister: Rosalia Encinias, his brother; Pete Chavez, and his brothers-in-law: Eduardo Moreno, Robert Ross and Henry Encinias. Joe is survived by his wife of 51 years: Pablita (Saiz) Chavez, his son: Eraldo (Lacey) Chavez, his daughter: Julie (Demetrious) Fuller and son: Pete Chavez, his grandchildren: Jade Chavez, Joe Chavez, Damarious Fuller, Zane Chavez and Aaliyah Chavez. Joe is also survived by his sisters: Alicia Moreno, Maria Elena (Len) Will and Barbara (Art) Saiz, and an aunt Celina (Francisco) Garcia. Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, September 2, 2022, at 1:30pm, followed by a Communion Service, at 2pm, at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Albuquerque, NM. Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary, followed by The Mass of Christian Burial, will be Saturday, September 3, 2022, at 10am at Nuestra Señora Del Refugio Catholic Church in Puerto De Luna, NM, officiated by Father Sotero Sena. Visitation for family and friends will be from 9-10am at Nuestra Señora Del Refugio, prior to the service. Interment, with full Military Honors, will follow at Nuestra Señora Del Refugio Cemetery, with Albert Chavez, Luis Saiz, Jr., Arthur Saiz, Jerry Sanchez, Demetrious Fuller, Joey Silva and Keith Ross serving as Pallbearers.
