Johnny Sena

October 29, 1944 — February 6, 2018

Johnny Sena, age 73, beloved son, brother, and uncle passed away peacefully on February 6, 2018. in Rio Rancho, N. M. surrounded by family.  He was born October 29, 1944 in Fort Sumner, New Mexico to Carlos and Christine (Casaus) Sena and was the fifth child of 12 children.  Johnny was a master carpenter and skilled craftsman and worked with his father, Carlos and brother Jimmy Sena for many years until he became disabled.  At a young age, Johnny had a spinal tumor that was removed through a major surgery.  This caused some immobility throughout his life, but he never complained.  He was a very hard worker who took pride in his work and craftsmanship.  Johnny was loved by his family and friends throughout Fort Sumner, Santa Rosa and the surrounding communities.  He was the family historian who enjoyed telling stories about the family ancestors, and many Fort Sumner families.  He loved and cared about his family and the many people he met throughout his life.  When he saw you or talked to you on the phone, he always greeted you with "I Love You".  He was a God parent and sponsor to many children.    Johnny enjoyed woodworking, mosaic work, and furniture restoration. He was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council. Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, his father Carlos T. Sena in 2005, mother Christine Sena in 2010, brother in law Albaro Griego in 1998, sister in law Della Sena in 2000, nephew Michael Griego in 1987, niece in law Luana Martinez Sena in 1987, niece Joy Yvette Griego in 2011, and a great nephew Marcos Anthony Griego in 1993. A loving brother, uncle, cousin and friend, Johnny will be missed by his family, 11 siblings, eight sisters Charlotte Griego of Fort Sumner, Lourdes Nieto (Ernest) of Rio Rancho, Barbara Madrid (Tommy) of Rio Rancho, Theresa Griego (Raymond) of Rio Rancho, Mary Madrid (Alfred) of Albuquerque, Veronica Madrid (Ernest) of Rio Rancho, Margaret Barrera (Rudy) of Amarillo, TX, Isabelle Lamkin of Albuquerque, three brothers Jimmy Sena of Santa Rosa, Joe Larry Sena (Martha) of Bernalillo, and Joe Sena (Patricia) of Fort Sumner. Also surviving are 35 nephews and nieces, 69 great nephews and nieces, and 11 great great nephews and nieces, and many other relatives and friends. Visitation hours will be 1pm-7pm on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the Chavez Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Friday, February 9, 2018 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the church at 10:00 am Saturday, February 10, 2018, burial will follow in the Sena family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery with Father Sotero A. Sena officiating. Pallbearers are Jeffrey Lamkin, Marc Lamkin, Johnny Ray Griego, Enriquez Sena, Joseph Nieto, Lawrence Sena, Frank Madrid, and Gene Sena. Honorary Pallbearers are Carlos Sena, Ray Griego, Marcos Griego, James Sena, and Eddie Sena. Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N. Fifth Street, Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
