Jose Phillie Gurule

Jose Phillie Gurule, 82, a longtime resident of Anton Chico, NM passed away Saturday, March 7, 2020, at Vecino Sanos in Santa Rosa, NM. Jose was born on October 5, 1937, in Anton Chico, NM to the home of Alejandro and Lucia (Lucero) Gurule. He grew up in Anton Chico, attended school there and graduated from Santa Rosa High School. Upon graduating high school Jose enlisted in the United States Navy serving his country proudly, after his enlistment was over he returned to Albuquerque and began his career with the US Postal Service. A lifelong Catholic, Jose was a member of San Jose Catholic Church in Anton Chico and a member of the American Legion Post 101 in Anton Chico. He enjoyed woodworking and reading. Jose is preceded in death by his parents Alejandro and Lucia; Sister, Erminia Gurule; and brothers Bernardo and Evaristo Gurule. Survivors include his niece, Patricia Maestas and husband Nazario of Anton Chico, NM; sister-in-law, Helen Gurule of Albuquerque, NM; nephews, Patrick Maldonado of Phoenix, AZ and Greg Gurule of Albuquerque. Other survivors include great nephews, nieces, family, and friends. A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at 10:00 am at Chavez Funeral Home in Santa Rosa, NM with Deacon Marvin Marquez officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at San Jose Cemetery in Anton Chico with Nazario A. and Nicholas Maestas serving as urn bearers.
